As someone who came into the fashion industry as an outsider, I was obsessed with the creativity and magic of fashion, but found it impossible to break in. One of the biggest barriers was that there was nowhere I could find analysis and insights on the business of fashion and how the industry really worked.
So in 2007, I started gathering that information together myself. At first, it was a passion project. Soon, a community of like-minded, curious people started gathering around this content. And as I travelled the world to meet them, I learned how fashion touched everyone, everywhere — and how many remarkable stories of creativity, entrepreneurship and cultural impact were going untold.
I realised there was a unique opportunity to provide rigorous business intelligence befitting a multi-trillion dollar industry. By bringing people together as one global community, we could share what we knew and challenge each other as the industry was being reshaped by technology, shifting values and globalisation.
Nearly two decades later, BoF has grown into something I could never have imagined. What started on my sofa is now a global media and intelligence company — publishing the journalism the industry relies on, convening its most influential leaders, and building the tools that help brands and professionals compete and grow.
But the thing I'm proudest of is the community — the hundreds of thousands of people around the world who wake up with BoF every morning and trust us to help them navigate this extraordinary, maddening, beautiful industry.
